Our missionTo inspire the appreciation and conservation of plants. Our visionIn 2016 the Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust will be 200 years old. We have the oldest botanic garden in Australia, one of this country’s earliest European landscapes. Our job is to protect and nourish a much-loved institution so that it can thrive and evolve, and continue to provide the people of Sydney and tourists from around the world with beautiful gardens and parks to enjoy for a further 200 years. We have set ourselves the highest possible environmental standards and will provide active leadership to Sydney through demonstrating, doing and teaching. We will increase our impact on society by building community connections, increasing involvement and participation, and hosting a diverse range of activities and events. Our researchers will continue to lead the understanding and wise management of the plant biodiversity of our continent and the Asia-Pacific. By the time of Sydney’s Botanic Bicentenary, we want ‘the Gardens’ and all that it stands for to be even more overt, and for a visit to one of our estates to be an inspiring, remarkable and unforgettable experience.
