Licences
Section 20(c) of the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust Act requires the Trust to outline the criteria by which the Trust assesses requests for licences and easements.
A licence grants non-exclusive use of land or premises.
Licences permit entry upon Trust land at times and under conditions approved by the Trust to:
- Maintain, re-lay or repair existing pipelines or cables
- Repair services crossing Trust lands to neighbouring organisations
Requests for licences must satisfy one or more of the following criteria:
- Support Government supply of services and utilities
- Support supply of service to neighbours
- Leave no permanent impact on the physical structure or visual amenity of the Trust lands
Comply with legislative safety and environmental requirements
Requests for construction licences in the last financial year:
Other temporary venue hirers are permitted to:
- Stage a temporary organised activity, (for example theatre or sports)
- Provide temporary services (for example, refreshments or broadcasting)
- Other temporary uses which support the attainment of Trust objectives
Requests for temporary venue use must satisfy one or more of the following criteria:
- Enhance the educational, historical, cultural or recreational value of Trust lands
- Integrate Trust activities with the wider social or cultural life of the State
- Comply with legislative safety and environmental requirements
- Leave no permanent impact on the physical structure or visual amenity of the Trust lands
- Demonstrate consistency with core activities and Trust objectives
- Meet an appropriate standard of service delivery
- Provide a commercial return to the Trust if appropriate
Significant proposed cultural events and activities are referred to the Trust's Arts Advisory Panel. This panel consists of staff representatives, a member of the Trust, an external expert appropriate to the particular cultural or art form being considered, and local experts/stakeholders as necessary.
The Panel advises the Director, Executive and Trust on the suitability of cultural activities or events for all Trust lands. The Panel advises on matters of artistic taste and merit, and provides comment and advice on context, suitability and risk management.

Easements
An easement allows another to use Trust land in a defined way.
Easements permit access across Trust lands under conditions defined by the Trust to:
- Construct pipelines or lay cables
- Provide access to dwellings adjacent to Trust lands
- Support the attainment of Trust objectives
Requests for easements must satisfy one or more of the following criteria:
- Support Government supply of services and utilities
- Support supply of service to neighbours
- Provide access for neighbours
- Minimise impact on the physical structure and visual amenity of Trust lands
- Comply with legislative safety and environmental requirements
- Demonstrate consistency with core activities and Trust objectives
