2012 Plant Science Internship has been cancelled

The program

The Plant Science Internship Program is designed for students undertaking studies in botany, ecology, forestry, environmental science, general biology (with plant interests), scientific horticulture and/or museum studies. The program will benefit those seeking professional or technical careers in plant sciences, cultural/scientific collection management or conservation management.

Interns work full-time on a voluntary, unpaid basis, assisting the Herbarium Curators, Scientific Research Staff on herbarium programs and research. Interns receive extensive practical training in botany, plant conservation, collections management, and job-seeking in the scientific workforce.

Seminar and training sessions are led by professional staff from the Office of Environment and Heritage, other government departments and tertiary institutions, and cover theoretical and practical topics.

The program runs for six weeks. Full-time participation for the full length of the program is required.

Interns will work mainly at the National Herbarium of NSW, located at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, with a five-day field trip to the Central Coast area of NSW.

Applicants must address selection criteria to be considered for the program.
