Botanic Gardens Trust — making a difference

Our mission

To inspire the appreciation and conservation of plants.

Our vision

In 2016 the Botanic Gardens Trust will be 200 years old. We have one of the earliest surviving botanical gardens in the world, as well as being Australia’s earliest cultural landscape.

Our job is to protect and nourish a much-loved institution so that it can thrive and evolve, and continue to provide the people of Sydney and tourists from around the world with beautiful gardens and parks to enjoy for a further 200 years.

We have set ourselves the highest possible environmental standards and will provide active leadership to Sydney through demonstrating, doing and teaching.

We will increase our impact on society by building community connections, increasing involvement and participation, and hosting a diverse range of activities and events.

Our researchers will continue to lead the understanding and wise management of the plant biodiversity of our continent and the Asia-Pacific.

By the time of Sydney’s Botanic Bicentenary, we want ‘The Gardens’ and all that it stands for to be even more overt, and for a visit to one of our estates to be an inspiring, remarkable and unforgettable experience.

Our values

In all that we do, the Botanic Gardens Trust values:

  • Our natural and cultural environment
  • Advancing, disseminating and using knowledge
  • A safe, healthy and fulfilling workplace
  • Excellence
  • Innovation and initiative
  • Achieving more through partnerships
