Dr Elizabeth Brown

15 November 1956 - 17 November 2013

Dr Elizabeth Brown (Research Bryologist, Scientific Editor Telopea) had worked at the National Herbarium of New South Wales, Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust for almost 24 years. She made major scientific contributions to Bryological, especially with respect to the systematics of Liverworts, as well as Ericaceae, research and was highly respected internationally. She trained many students and early career researchers including our ABRS postdoctoral research fellow Dr Matt Renner. Her leadership of the editorial committee of the Trust scientific journal Telopea has contributed significantly to its status as a highly respected journal. Elizabeth was passionate about bryological research and the Trust and gave her time and support, without hesitation, to issues within and outside the herbarium. She will be sorely missed.

Currently the Trust is working towards publishing a celebratory volume of Telopea honouring Elizabeth in 2014. We would like to acknowledge her contributions to systematic botany and to celebrate her achievements through her career of 24 years at the Trust. The first paper for this volume celebrates her life and scientific achievements (Murray LJ, Conn BJ 2014 Elizabeth Anne Brown 15 November 1956-17 November 2013. Telopea 17: 1-10). If you would like to contribute to this volume please contact Scientific Editor Dr Barry Conn (Barry.Conn@rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au).
