LocationBoth parents of this hybrid come from the south-west of Western Australia on deep sand. This is the second time that the plants have flowered in the Garden, you can see them in the dry stone wall terraces at the Banksia Garden.

These plants have been grown from seed collected off a naturally occurring hybrid and it will be interesting to see how each seedling will develop. There is the possibility that the seedlings will continue to display hybrid characteristics, or that some seedlings will favour one parent over the other. The Waite Agricultural Research Institute of the University of Adelaide in Adelaide, South Australia released a cultivar called Banksia ‘Waite Orange’ with the same parentage some years ago which might be still available at nurseries. |
