Podolepis jaceoides

Location

Come and see this bright, sunny plant in the Connections Garden. It’s located in Plants Through Time, Bed 29.

This herbaceous perennial has profuse shaggy, golden yellow, daisy-like flowers. The stems are wire like and coloured deep reddish brown, hence the common name ‘Showy Copper Wire Daisy’. This attractive species flowers throughout early spring and summer. It’s not widely cultivated which is a shame as it has excellent potential for cottage gardens, path borders, containers and floral bedding displays.
Distributed over Eastern Australia this plant grows in heavy clay to sandy soils, is frost hardy and tolerates dry periods. It is suitable for growing in semi-arid, temperate and sub tropical regions. The removal of spent flower stems helps to promote more flowering.
The roots are edible and were utilised by Aborigines, but we ask that you do not try to eat them!
