The three Gardens have a changing program of hands-on activities designed for children during the school holidays and over summer. Activities are fun for the whole family.

Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney 

Garrabarra! - celebrating culture

Celebrate the culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through music, games and food. Discover how plants are an integral part of culture. Suitable for children aged 6-13 years.

When: Mon 30 June - Fri 4 July, 10.30 am-12 pm and 1 pm-2.30 pm
Where: Education Centre, Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
Cost: $16.50 per child

Dandy Lions

When: During term-time Tuesdays 15 July to 16 September, Thursdays 17 July to 18 September, 10.30 am - 12.00 noon
Where: Lawn next to Victoria Gate Lodge, Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney. Enter through Victoria Gate from Mrs Macquaries Road. Click here for map.
Cost: $135 per family for a term of Tuesdays or a term of Thursdays (max. 2 children, $50 per extra child). Casual places are also available each week $15 per family. Foundation and Friends of the Botanic Gardens receive a 10% discount.

Journey of the Seed 

How do plants grow? Pick up a map and activity kit from the Gardenís Visitor Centre and follow the self-guided trail to the Australian PlantBank. Enjoy fun activities along the way to discover the magical hidden world of seeds, complete the quiz and win a prize!

When: Available Monday to Friday 10 am to 4.30 pm

Young shutterbugs photography workshop

Younger visitors will delight in this fun and interactive photography workshop. Kids can learn how to use a camera and get the best shot, while at the same time exploring the Garden behind the lens. Join some new friends in discovering the wonderful art of photography in the amazing setting of Australiaís largest botanic garden.

Shutterbug Shuttle Tour

Join the Shutterbug Shuttle as it takes you on a journey around the Garden in the lead up to the 2014 Budding Photographer competition. Visit popular Garden photography locations and take advantage of the evening light as the day comes to a close. Meet new friends and share your photography stories!

Winter Wonderland

Embark on a winter adventure! 'X' marks the spots to enjoy fun hands-on activities and discover amazing plants from around the world. For children aged 6-12 years. Self- guided tour for children and families.
