Friends of The Gardens offers members a rich experience for those who want to be more involved. Volunteering is rewarding and fun. You can meet new people, learn new skills and help support the three Gardens.

What it means to us

Friends of The Gardens can only continue to promote, support and protect the three Gardens with the help of volunteer members.

Ways you can join in and help

  • Information Booth - Come and greet visitors to the Royal Botanic Gardens. You’ll receive training and updates.
  • Catering - Provide refreshments for Friends' events & activities You can prepare or serve food and drinks, and sell raffle tickets.
  • Works Team - Help set up for activities, do odd jobs and repairs.
  • Growing Friends - Propagate seeds and cuttings from plants in the three Gardens (with permission and horticultural advice from Botanic Gardens Trust staff). Growing Friends hold weekly plant sales to raise funds.
  • Promotions - Promote membership of the Friends through speaking to garden clubs and other organisations, as well as at Botanic Gardens Trust events
  • Friends' events & activities - Plan and organise, do publicity, and staff sales desks for our regular activities, annual booksale, and major exhibitions each year.
  • The Office - You can answer the phone, process memberships and activity bookings, or do the banking. Working bees come together for mail-outs and packaging cards.

How to get started

To join us in the Volunteer experience, download and fill in the Friends' volunteer application form.Only members of the Friends can be Friends' volunteers, so if you aren't already a member, join now.

Other volunteer positions

The Botanic Gardens Trust has a wide range of volunteer positions available. Recruitment for specific programs for other types of volunteers - scientific, nursery/horticulture, bush regeneration, and Friends' volunteers - occurs at different times of the year and any vacancies will be listed on this website as they arise. In the meantime we suggest you consider registering your interest with the Friends of The Gardens, who are always looking for helpers.
