Margaret Flockton Award for Botanical Illustration
The first Margaret Flockton Award, funded by the Friends, was offered in 2004 and attracted a great range of submissions from around Australia. The exhibitions of selected works gives visitors the opportunity to see the best of this demanding discipline.
Botanical illustration is a marriage of art and science. Each work examines the life cycle of a plant, accurately capturing the intricacy of nature’s beauty. The Margaret Flockton Award competition has been established by the Friends of The Gardens to raise the profile of this scientific art form. Unlike the Botanica exhibition, all entries must be in black and white.
Submissions to the Margaret Flockton Award are judged on botanical accuracy in the interpretation and portrayal of plant characters and diagnostic features, technical merit, artistic merit and suitability for publication.
