Centre for Plant Conservation
In 2001 the Botanic Gardens Trust established the Centre for Plant Conservation as a new focus for our existing work in plant conservation, and to stimulate the development of more projects in research, education, and conservation practice.
In establishing the Centre, we aim to make a difference in the way we all care for our world - from urban streets and backyards to farms and wilderness - by providing a means for us all to address the big conservation issues and become better custodians of the world's biological heritage.
The key tasks of the CPC are to
- Coordinate the Botanic Gardens Trust's conservation work in research, education, and horticulture
- Identify gaps in research, education, and conservation practice, and build coalitions of interest to fill those gaps
- Develop our own internet-based information resources on plant conservation in Australia and internationally, and provide useful links to other information sources
- Develop strong working links to other Government conservation agencies, professional researchers, industry, and community conservation groups
- Secure new funding and initiate projects.
The Botanic Gardens Trust undertakes a wide range of activities relating to plant conservation, not all under the CPC banner. See our conservation research and conservation through community education pages for more information
For regular bulletins on our current conservation projects and wider news in plant conservation, subscribe to our CPC News electronic bulletin.
You can directly support all the activities of the Botanic Gardens Trust by becoming a member of the Friends of The Gardens. Or you can support us through bequests, donations, or sponsorships.
