Conservation research

The Botanic Gardens Trust research expertise in plant science and horticulture is a powerful resource for plant conservation. 

Our research programs in plant taxonomy, plant distribution, and ecology provide the basic information that allow assessment of the conservation status of species and communities.

Our publications and our PlantNET database website help distribute this information to end-users.

Our horticultural units maintain live collections of many species for research and as a conservation resource. The Horticultural Research unit at Mount Annan Botanic Garden has developed garden cultivars of several rare or threatened species, and maintains and tests stocks of seed of threatened species in the NSW Seedbank.
