Conservation education

The Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust has programs and activities providing a focus on conservation in community and school education. They include

  • Interactive lessons for schools
  • Involvement of tertiary-level students in Centre for Plant Conservation projects
  • Conservation-based walks, talks and activities for the community - e.g. in the Cumberland Plain Woodland area at the Australian Botanic Garden
  • Interpretive signage highlighting the importance of plant conservation to a sustainable future
  • Working with schools and the Department of Housing to provide messages about biodiversity and sustainable horticulture
  • Ecotours through the rugged Blue Mountains Botanic Garden conservation area adjoining the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area
  • The Wollemi Pine on tour
  • Bringing together educators for the recent Fifth BGCI International Congress on Education in Botanic Gardens, with the theme ‘Connecting with Plants - Lessons for Life’
