PeopleBotany Bay was the site of encounter; between people of the Gweagal Aboriginal clan, and James Cook and the Endeavour's crew; between the naturalists Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander, and a new and unknown flora; and between the English convict fleet under Captain Phillip, and the French exploring expedition of La Perouse. These encounters had important consequences for the way Australia developed. Here we explore Botany Bay through the journals and scientific collections left by some of these people.
