Prostrate, monoecious perennial shrub. Longevity 10-20 years.

Flowers: Separate male and female flowers on same plant. Pollinator unknown.

Fruit: Fruiting bracteoles, 4-6 mm long, dry or succulent and red, splitting in two to expose 1 seed. Locally dispered, also possibly bird dispersed.

Seed: Dark coloured disc.

Ecology

  • Grassland habitat, under remnant trees.
  • Localised under trees and roadsides at the Australian  Botanic Garden.
  • Reported to be food plant of butterfly larvae Theclinesthes serpentata serpentata.
