Evergreen tree to 20 m high, deep rooting. Longevity more than 100 years.

Flowers: Creamy white, November.

Fruit: Dry capsule 4 7 cm long, splitting at maturity to release 8 18 seeds.

Seed: Yellow, lower surface covered with irritant hairs, May June. Fresh seeds reportedly germinate without treatment.

  • Western Sydney dry rainforest and hillside habitats.
  • Uncommon at the Australian Botanic Garden.
  • Resprouts after fire.
  • Seedlings occasionally observed in woodland but do not persist to maturity.
