Tufted perennial grass to 1 m high, with fibrous roots. Longevity 5 - 25 years.

Flowers: January – May. Wind pollinated.

Fruit: Dry one seeded. No specialised dispersal mechanism.

Seed: dispersed locally. Fresh seed germinates readily, no dormancy.
