Erect, emergent short lived herb to 40 cm high, with floating or emergent leaves.

Flowers: Small white, summer.

Fruit: Follicle 5 – 6 mm long, 2-seeded, in star shaped aggregate fruit 10 – 12 mm diameter.

Seed: 1.5 mm long, partly ridges and tuberculate.
