Perennial herb, with rhizomes, stems creeping and rooting at the nodes. Spreads by rhizomes, longevity indefinite.

Flowers: White – creamy yellow, October – June.

Fruit: Schizocarp 1.5 – 2 mm long, 2.5 – 3 mm wide, February – June.

Seed: 2, 1-seeded mericarps

Ecology

• Native to South America
• Estuaries, coastline, sand dunes and ponds
• Occasional weed around lakes at the Australian Botanic Garden
• Colonises disturbed foreshore sites
