Hypericum gramineum

Family Clusiaceae

Erect herb to 40 cm high. Taproot 1 mm diameter with creeping lateral roots giving rise to stems. Longevity of 5 – 20 years.

Flowers: Yellow – orange, February – April, November – December.

Fruit: Black capsule, to 7 mm long with 200-300 seeds.

Seed: Minute, probably wind-dispersed. Some dormancy.

Ecology

• Grassland mid to light shade.
• Occasional in grassland at the Australian Botanic Garden, not under tree canopies.
• Forming localised colonies to 5 m across.
• Resprouts after fire.
