Prostrate herb rooting at nodes, stems spreading to 30 cm. Longevity less than 2 years.

Flowers: Orange-red, August – April.

Fruit: Capsule 7 – 9 mm diameter, with about 20 segments, each containing 2 seeds, October – December.

Ecology

• Native of South America.
• Weed of grasslands, woodland and along roadsides in full sun.
• Common at the Australian Botanic Garden.
• Possibly killed by fire.
