Cotton Fireweed

Herb to 1 m high, with radiating fine roots to 5 cm. Longevity 2 - 5 years.

Flowers: Yellow, August – May.

Fruit: Achene 3 – 4 mm long with pappus of hairs 5 – 7 mm long, mature October – March.

Seed: Wind dispersed, fresh seed non-dormant.

  • Ephemeral  along watercourses, roadsides, disturbed sites. Light shade – full sun.
  • Occasional in woodland at the Australian Botanic Garden during suitable seasons.
  • Probably killed by fire.
