Several species of Trifolium have been recorded in woodland at Mount Annan, including Trifolium glomeratum, Trifolium striatum, and Trifolium campestre.

Short lived annual, prostrate or ascending herbs with 3-foliate leaves.

Flowers: Pink, white or yellow, spring.

Fruit: Pod containing 1 - 2 seeds.

Seed: Hard coated.

Ecology

  • Natives of Europe, Mediterranean, Asia and North Africa.
  • Weeds of woodland, grasslands and roadsides.
  • Seasonally common but minor weed at the Australian Botanic Garden.
  • Legumes reported to have nitrogen fixing Rhizobium nodules on roots.
  • Winter germinating in burnt and unburnt sites.
