*Cactoblastis cactorum
Caterpillars of Cactoblastis feed voraciously on the Prickly Pear, *Opuntia stricta. An example of a successful biological control program; they were deliberately introduced to Australia from South America to control the exotic Prickly Pear which had taken over pastures in large areas of South Eastern Queensland and Northern NSW. |
