Annual herb to 35 cm high, with opposite leaves; branches densely hairy. Longevity less than 1 year.

Flowers: White or pale pink, February – October.

Fruit: Dry fruit, splitting into 4 one-seeded units.

Ecology

• Native of Europe and the Mediterranean, reportedly naturalised near Sydney by 1804.
• Weed of cultivation, not invasive of bushland.
• Occasional in woodland and grassland at Mount Annan Botanic Garden.
• Killed by fire.
