Artisans in the Gardens 2015

When: 10am-4pm on 10-18 October 2015
Where: Lion Gate Lodge, The Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney
Free Entry.

Artisans in the Gardens is a journey into the fascinating world of contemporary craft and sculpture with an opportunity to view and purchase newly commissioned work from over 50 emerging and established Australian artists and craftspeople.

This year’s exhibition focuses on the artist’s engagement with nature. The  works draw inspiration from the beauty and complexity of the natural environment, and issues surrounding sustainability and environmental concerns.

Presented by Foundation and Friends of the Botanic Gardens and curated by Julieanne Mills, the exhibition will showcase a broad spectrum of mediums including jewellery, ceramics, glass, textiles and sculpture. Curated to appeal to a broad audience this exhibition celebrates the diversity of artistic expression and the art of the hand made.

This year’s outdoor sculptural works include Michael Purdy’s carved sandstone bowls, Adam Rish amusing wooden carvings, exquisite bird baths and cast bronze sculptures by Annie Herron, lifelike and imaginary ceramic birds based on Australian native species by Linda Davy and the dinosaur footed ceramic chickens of Jackie Lallemand.

A beautiful collection of bespoke homewares includes the hand painted porcelain of Niharika Hukku and Frances Smith, new stoneware plates, bowls and platters by Katherine Mahoney and hand printed linen by Freedom Wilson.

Inspirational jewellery, incorporating recycled components, gumnuts, precious stones and metals, reinterpret the botanical theme with a twist from Melinda Young, works inspired by fungi from Michelle Kelly and  hand coloured metal flowers by Zoe Grigoris.

All items are for sale with part of the proceeds supporting the work of the Foundation & Friends.
