Deirdre Bean

Deirdre is a recognised botanical artist who exhibits in Sydney and internationally. She has paintings in public collections at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London, the Hunt Institute of Botanical Illustration in Pittsburgh, USA, and the Florilegium collection at the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney. She has won a gold (2006) and a silver gilt medal (2012) at the Royal Horticultural Society in London. She was selected as a finalist in the Waterhouse Prize at the South Australian Museum in 2011.

Nature has inspired Deirdre to observe her subjects closely and to paint them in detail, paying close attention to colour and form. She is drawn to paint those plants that are threatened or have environmental significance. She is currently working on painting the mangrove species of Australia.
