Alex Springall
Alex was a passionate woodworker for many years while working as a hydrographer. He specialises in boxes and small tables. He started making pieces to order and selling through retail outlets. After one meeting too many, he completed the Cert. IV in fine woodworking at the Sturt School for Wood in 2002 and now works full time making boxes, furniture and decorative pieces. He believes that items must first be functional, but functionality is not enough. Good design arouses the emotions.
His commissions include presentation scroll boxes for the World Masters Games 2009 in Sydney and for the next games in Turin, for presentation to Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and for the NSW Government collection.
He has exhibited in many exhibitions and was the winner of the Australian Wood Review Open Box competition in 2008.
