Hedley Neil

'My work in wood is a realistic recreation of everyday scenes and objects from past and present. Woods are worked in various ways to create textural effects to heighten the realism of the work. Once the work is complete, I like to allow the piece to speak for itself. People are then able to enjoy their own interpretations.

I started my career in carpentry and joinery in 1976.  Over subsequent years I started working with wood in different ways, with an increasing focus on wood carving and sculpture. From 1984 carving and sculpture became a full time occupation.  During the last 5 years I have been exploring additional avenues of woodwork, including cabinet making.'
