Peter Hayes
'Timbers have their own timeless quality. They can be warmly simple or immensely complex; with careful selection and crafting its beauty becomes and simply begs to be touched. I am passionate about making sculpture and furniture which I hope displays an integral balance of function and form. Artistic ability, I believe, is an inherited quality some are lucky to gain. My contribution has been to practice that ability over a lifetime and success or failure is subjective.'
Peter has exhibited work in many galleries in Brisbane, Murwillumbah, Lismore and Sydney. He had entries in the Tweed Valley Regional Art Prize in 1996, 1999 and 2000. His work has won a number of prizes including the Tweed Valley Regional Art Prize in 1998 and the Byron Bay Easter Art Classic in the same year. In 2005 Peter had a third in the 'Working With with Wood Show' at the Hordon Pavilion / Trades Hall Sydney and this year at the same show he won a second for furniture and a highly commended for sculpture.
