Beverly Allen Art ClassConducted by acclaimed botanical artist Beverly Allen, this four day botanical painting workshop is for artists with some experience. With watercolour we will explore the light and shade, tone and form necessary to create our three dimensional illusion on paper. We'll analyse the layers of colour needed to depict the subject accurately, and learn techniques of colour mixing and the application of washes. There will be an emphasis on the finer details that bring a painting to life and demonstrations of various techniques. When: Tuesday 5 - Friday 8 March 2013, 9.30 am-4 pm Helping HandsBlue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah Come to a Helping Hands morning and experience horticultural work in the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah with a great group of people. You could be involved in mulching, weeding, pruning or planting. Wear sturdy leather boots with ankle support and bring a hat, sunscreen, gloves and drinking water so you are comfortable and protected. Free event for members only. Bookings are essential. When: Thursday 7 March, Thursday 4 April, 2 May, 8.30 am-12 pm Nature Drawing Workshop with Fiona LumsdenJoin Fiona Lumsden, well known Blue Mountains wildlife artist as she discloses the secrets and magic of nature and botanical art during this hands on workshop. All levels catered for. When: Sunday 17 March, 10 am - 3 pm Helping HandsRoyal Botanic Garden Sydney Come to a Helping Hands morning and experience horticultural work in the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney with a great group of people. You could be involved in mulching, weeding, pruning or planting. When: Thursday 21 March, 18 April, 16 May Children's Photography WorkshopPhotography workshop for kids. Kids can learn about the art of photography with an interesting course designed for kids aged 9 to 14 who want to learn about photography. Led by a local photographer, this course includes a workshop and practical session. Bookings essential. Must bring camera. When: 23 March Autumn Sketching SafariSketch your way around the Garden with experienced sketching artist Ellen Fielder. Create your own masterpiece inspired by the Garden and meet new friends along the way. Materials are supplied, so just come into the Garden and enjoy! When: Sunday 24 March 2012, 11 am-1 pm Botanical Songforms WorkshopExplore the beauty of geometry in nature in this creative workshop with Phillippa Carnemolla, the Garden’s 2012 Artist in Residence. Phillippa will take you through her creative process, and then lead a hands-on creative activity where participants will build their own small sculpture. When: Saturday 6 April, 1-2.30 pm |
Dry Stone Wall WorkshopsLearn how to build dry stone walls during a weekend workshop run by Geoff Duggan, Master Craftsman and Professional Member and Advanced Instructor of the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain. The two-day workshop offers 'hands on' and theoretical training in the skill of dry stone walling for gardeners, do-it-yourself enthusiasts and professional landscapers. You can complete the whole course or choose from themes including Beginners, Macro, People, Plants and Animals and Landscapes. When: Sunday 21 April 2013 Sogetsu Ikebana WorkshopTeachers of the modern Sogetsu School of Ikebana will introduce you to the basic techniques of ikebana, the ancient floral art of Japan. When: 4 May, 10 am-3 pm Scientific Botanical Illustration Class with Lesley Elkan and Catherine WardropAs part of the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the Margaret Flockton Award, Lesley Elkan and Catherine Wardrop, Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust illustrators, will be conducting a two-day workshop in black and white scientific botanical illustration. With tuition on plant research and identification, pencil sketching, microscope dissections, scale and composition, students will then render their drawings with ink technique suitable for reproduction. The sculpture launch will be followed by a number of free art workshops for visitors this winter. The program is sponsored by Interlink Roads. When: Sunday 26 May 2013 Basketry Workshop: Rustic Twining & Cord Making with Meri PeachDiscover the ancient and contemplative craft of basket making. Meri Peach is returning in 2013 with three basketry workshops. Her twining workshop in May has a twist in that it will use more rustic materials. Included will be discussion around the history and culture of basket making, explanation of gathering and preparation of materials, and demonstrations followed by one-to-one instruction.
