The building is located in the Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan along Cunningham Drive, about 2 km from the Narellan Road entrance.

What are the opening hours?

PlantBank is open to the public Monday to Friday 8 am to 6 pm.

Are children welcome?

Absolutely. One of the goals of the Australian PlantBank is to inspire children and adults alike to appreciate, conserve and grow plants. We hope we might even encourage one or two to become scientists one day!  Dedicated education programs will operate from the Australian PlantBank in the near future. Contact 4634 7935 for more information.

What does it cost?

Entry is free to the Australian PlantBank for the self guided walk.

Can I do a tour?

Volunteer guides provide tours of the building at set times and explain the work being carried out inside. Please contact the Visitor Centre (4634 7935 or for tour times. The building has been designed so that the public can also do self-guided tours outside of the scheduled tour times. The laboratories have glass walls so you can see into them and signage in the landscape and throughout the interior of the public areas explains the science and conservation programs occurring within PlantBank.

Can visitors go behind the scenes?

Absolutely. Visitors will be able to book a behind the scenes tour for a small fee. This fee will help fund the scientific research. For more information please contact the Visitor Centre on 4634 7935.


Can I volunteer at the Australian PlantBank?

The science team are currently settling in to the new facilities and hope to accept volunteers in 2014. Contact the Australian Botanic Garden on 4634 7935 to register your interest.

Is there parking?

Limited Parking is available at P2 with more parking in the main Visitor Centre car park (P3). A dedicated pathway links the main car park to the Australian PlantBank and is a short walk 5 min walk (approx 500 m).

Is it wheelchair accessible?

There are ramps to navigate but the building itself is on one level and there is one accessible parking space available.  The accessible parking spot is 50 m beyond the P2 car park on the right hand side. Contact the Visitor Centre for further information on 4634 7935.


Can any of the Australian PlantBank’s rooms be hired?

The two meeting rooms, the teaching laboratory and the lecture theatre/theatrette are all available for hire for small conferences and meetings. For information contact the Functions and Events team on 4634 7903.


Who owns and operates the Australian PlantBank?

The Australian PlantBank is run by the Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust. The Trust was formed by and operates under an Act of the NSW State Government. 


Where does the Australian PlantBank’s funding come from?

PlantBank has an operational budget from the Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust. About half of this money is provided by the NSW Government and the other half is raised through venue hire, events, car parking fees, etc.  PlantBank’s research programs rely on significant funding from grants and foundations.
