Festival of Walking

at the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden

The Festival of Walking is a Blue Mountains, Lithgow and Oberon Tourism initiative. Now in its third year it runs from 5 to 13 October, highlighting great walks throughout this stunning region. If you have not been for a bush walk in the Blue Mountains here is your chance. Guided walks will be advertised on www.festivalofwalking.com.

Two walks are being offered as part of the festival. The Wilderness Walk to Tomah Spur will give visitors the chance to experience the Garden's wilder side, led by a specialist guide with detailed knowledge of Blue Mountains plants and wildlife. Tomah Spur is on conservation land owned by the Garden and your walk will take you through four different environments - rainforest, eucalypt woodland, spectacular heath and wind-sculpted sandstone. You'll travel through a carpet of ferns, moss-laden rocks and lush green rainforest with towering trees before emerging onto a rock outcrop with spectacular views of the Blue Mountains. Meet 10 am for a briefing. Return approx 5 pm. Reasonable fitness, sturdy shoes, sun hat and water bottle recommended. Participants will be provided with morning tea but are to bring their own lunch. The Garden is also offering the Aboriginal Heritage Tour on Friday 11 October as part of the festival. Bookings essential.
