Botanical art at the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden

Flowering Wonderfully - the botanical legacy of Janet Cosh

A selection from the superb botanical collection from the University of Wollongong of the late Janet Cosh (1901-1989) will be on show at the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden from Saturday 13 July until Sunday 11 August to honour her botanical achievements.

Janet Cosh was the grand-daughter of Louisa Atkinson, renowned writer, botanist and illustrator who lived at Kurrajong in the Hawkesbury. She devoted herself to the study of botany in the Southern Highlands of NSW later in life when she was in her late 60s. Through her botanical endeavours she became part of a circle of friends and associates all with a shared passion for botany and the natural environment.

This exhibition includes framed botanical illustrations, letters between Janet and various organisations such as the National Herbarium of NSW and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, botanical reference books, maps, field notebooks, specimens and books and pamphlets to which she contributed.
