Figures in the Landscape sculpture unveiled

The Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan unveiled the Garden’s most recent sculpture acquisition, Figures in the Landscape by 2012 Artist-in-Residence renowned painter and sculptor Gary Christian.

The sculpture was created using laser and oxy cutting and explores the connection between people and nature. The foreground of the sculpture is made from polished stainless steel and is backed by rusting steel. The sculpture is located in the Woodlands area near the entrance to the Garden.

With more than 20 years experience as an abstract painter and sculptor, Christian has held 17 solo exhibitions across Australia and has been featured in many prestigious exhibitions and awards. In 2009 he won the Santos Sculpture award.

The Artist-in-Residence program at the Garden is sponsored by Interlink Roads, owner and operator of the M5. This is the second year of the program which was part of the successful 2012 The Sydney Morning Herald Autumn of the Arts festival.

The Artist-in-Residence program also includes a number of workshops and talks. Gary Christian will be hosting a Sketching Safari for children at the Garden on Sunday 28 October from 11 am to 1 pm. This is a free event and bookings are essential on 4634 7935.
