Don’t miss your chance to be one of the first people in the world to read a fictional masterpiece The Signature of All Things - a book destined for world-wide acclaim written by Elizabeth Gilbert, author of the bestseller Eat, Pray, Love

Come along to a treasure hunt at the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney (see details below) to search for your free book. There will be 20-30 of the books hidden near specifically chosen plant species. Each book will contain a special message from Liz Gilbert.

Liz was inspired by a family heirloom - a rare 18th Century edition of Captain Cook’s voyages across the world to produce this captivating story about the life of Alma Whittaker, a brilliant botanist that spans nearly the entire 19th Century.

At the time the book is set, there is a schism between religion and science, which parallels the debate about God versus evolution in the present time.

Liz Gilbert, already an expert on 19th Century literature painstakingly researched every possible theme in the book in efforts to produce a book of fiction that was also credible.

'Botany is the main theme running through the book which I believe to be the most beautiful of sciences. Alma Whittaker explores plants with theories and their evolution which pulls her in one direction before she is overwhelmed by love for a man of deep spiritual beliefs,' Ms Gilbert said.

'Captain Cook and Sir Joseph Banks are "characters" in my book and these historical figures are intrinsically linked to the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney too which makes it the perfect place to introduce my book via the treasure hunt.

'I’d encourage people to come along to the book hunt, I’ve been to the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney and loved it and spent the whole day there - I felt like it was so big it took up half the city!'

The world-wide launch of the book is on October 1, 2013 - this treasure hunt will allow people to get copies of the book prior.
