The coming of the kaurisJoin Executive Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust, Professor David Mabberley, for a night of fascinating insight into the magnificent Agathis in this final presentation of the Garden of Ideas lecture series. In The coming of the kauris - Agathis and after, Professor Mabberley will discuss the discovery, publication and export of the various species of Agathis, the kauri pine from Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. His talk will address the captivating history of this magnificent species from the 19th century to the present day. Prof. David Mabberley is a prize-winning plant specialist, science historian, botanic art expert, botanic gardens director and author of 16 books, including the internationally acclaimed Mabberley’s Plant-Book. In Prof. Mabberley’s distinguished career he has been a Tutorial Fellow of Wadham College, Oxford, Director of the University of Washington Botanic Gardens and Keeper (Director) of the Herbarium, Library, Art and Archives at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. In addition to his role as Executive Director, Prof. Mabberley currently holds a number of positions including Visiting Professor at Oxford University and Extraordinary Professor at the University of Leiden, The Netherlands.
