Walk on the Wild Side at the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden

Take a Walk on the Wild Side, a Walk Around the World or be one of only a few who have explored Tomah Spur as part of the ‘Blue Mountains Festival of Walking’ at the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah from 6 - 14 October.

The Garden has organised three special walks, which will be running over the course of the weeklong festival, now in its second year.

For those with an interest in history and a love of the rainforest the one hour ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ will take you through the ‘Jungle’ area of the Garden where you will learn about early efforts to conserve this special place and see some of the unique flora and fauna of pristine Blue Mountains rainforest.

The one hour ‘Walk Around the World’ will showcase the geographic differences between plants from as diverse locations as China and Africa. Your guide will lead you around the botanical globe exploring the world class collection of cool climate and southern hemisphere plants that feature in the Garden at Mount Tomah, which is located 1,000 metres above sea level.

For those who would love to explore the Blue Mountains bush or for those who already enjoy bushwalking, a tougher walk to Tomah Spur will open your eyes to the stunning scenery of the Blue Mountains that can only be experienced off the beaten track. This is a medium to hard graded walk beginning with a briefing from your experienced guide, who will take you through the varying environments on the undeveloped conservation land owned by the Garden and only accessible with a trained Garden guide. Your walk will take you through four different environments; rainforest, eucalypt woodland, spectacular heath and wind-sculpted sandstone. You'll travel through a carpet of ferns, moss-laden rocks and lush green rainforest with towering trees before emerging onto a rocky outcrop with spectacular views of the Blue Mountains. This is great opportunity to explore this beautiful bushland on an extended tour. Reasonable fitness, sturdy shoes, sun hat and water bottle recommended.
