Sourcing fresh, local produce was a major concern for Martin Boetz, during his 13 years as co-owner and executive chef of Longrain restaurant, Sydney and Melbourne. Now he is a sustainable food producer and educator at the Cooks’ Co-op, an 11 hectare farm, he has established on the Hawkesbury River, north of Windsor.

As part of the SMH Good Food Month ‘Down to Earth’ events, you can meet Martin on 12 October, between 2 and 4.30 pm. He will be the host to a panel of industry experts as they discuss topics including: food security - Sydney’s food growing areas are rapidly being replaced by housing, the role of properly raised meat and vegetables in creating good health, and the pit falls of farming today.

Enjoy a locally sourced afternoon tea, and have your questions answered by agronomist Tally Mathews; naturopath and expert on healthy living, Anthia Koullouros; Joyce Wilkie vegetable farmer; Matt Simmons, Melanda Park free range pork producer and James Nathan, organic food distributor.
