New charges for buses and coaches at Mrs Macquaries Point

Metered parking for all bus and coach operators at Mrs Macquaries Point will apply from 1 July 2012.

Following an extensive review of the parking arrangements for buses and coaches at Mrs Macquaries Point, effective from 1 July 2012, the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust
will require all bus and coach operators to pay metered parking (approximately $4 per visit).

Background

Bus visits to Mrs Macquaries Point have been on the increase since a survey was first conducted in late 1996. Since then bus movements have increased from 100 vehicles per day to an average of 215.

The first survey in 1996 indicated the maximum time spent at the Point by buses was no more
than 20 minutes. The latest survey in 2012 confirms this statistic.

New arrangement

The adoption of the metered parking fee for buses and coaches is to align it with the
requirement for single vehicle drivers to pay for metered parking.

It was decided the most equitable way to charge for bus visitation to Mrs Macquaries
Point is to introduce paid metered parking. Based on the 20 minute stay identified in the
2012 survey, buses will be required to pay approximately $4.00 per visit from 1 July 2012.

There will be no more designated parking for buses and coaches from 1 July 2012. In addition to metered parking, from 1 July 2012, there will no longer be designated parking for buses and coaches. Bus and coach operators will have the same access as the general public to all metered spaces.
