Jillian was inspired to take up botanical art in 2009 after viewing Botanica and the Margaret Flockton Award at the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney. She had some experience in watercolour as a teenager but had concentrated on graphite, and pen and ink drawing as a hobby in the intervening years. She also studied print-making techniques, focusing on etching, with Robert Ives. She attended classes with botanical artist Annie Hughes at Ku-ring-gai Art Centre in Roseville, and subsequently joined a group of dedicated and generous botanical artists who paint together regularly at Gladesville.
Jillian has exhibited at the Botanical Art Society of Australia annual exhibition and at Nutcote (the home of May Gibbs), and is an exhibiting member of the Lane Cove Art Society and Workshop Arts Centre in Willoughby.
