Autumn Vibes Children’s ActivityWhen: Sunday 10 March In 2012 the Children’s Activity lawn was buzzing with excitement and energy, as it was so popular we have added more to the program for 2013. YogaBugs Garden Adventure Children join a lively interactive yoga-story in the Garden - leaping, dancing and stretching to celebrate nature in autumn. For children 3-7 years old. When: Session 1: 10.30-11.00am, Session 2: 11.00-11.30 am, Session 3: 12.00-12:30 pm, Session 4: 12.30-1.00 pm Palm Frond Weaving For those who love weaving there will be palm frond weaving supervised by skilled Fijian weavers. For children 5-12 years old. When: 10.30 am-2.30 pm. Tall Tales and Twine Children weave, twine and twist leaves, vines and other plant materials in a hands-on creative activity, and then enjoy a folk-tale adventure through the Garden. For children 5-12 years old. When: Session 1: 11.00-11.45 am, Session 2: 12.00 noon-12.45 pm, Session 3: 2.00-2.40 pm, Session 4: 3.00-3.40 pm Boomerang Painting For the budding painters there will be boomerang painting with the Trust's Aboriginal educators. For children 5-12 years old. When: Session 1: 11.15-12.00 pm, Session 2: 12.15-1.00 pm, Session 3: 1.15-2.00 pm, Session 4: 2.15-3.00 pm Capoeira workshop Guided by a professional Capoeira dancer, children participate in an exciting and energetic introduction to the Brazilian art form combining elements of martial arts, music and dance. When: 2.00-2.30 pm Drawing competition: 10.30 am-2.30 pm - Free
Dandy Garden Stories - ExhibitionArtist Vicki Berglinden has created a delightful range of unique artworks for children. Each colourful, whimsical drawing contains a world brimming with garden life and fantastical stories. When: Friday 19 - Sunday 24 March, 10 am-4 pm Children’s Photography WorkshopPhotography workshop for kids. Kids can learn about the art of photography with an interesting course designed for kids aged 9 to 14 who want to learn about photography. Led by a local photographer, this course includes a workshop and practical session. Bookings essential. Must bring camera. When: 23 March |
Girl Guides NSW & ACT Open DayThis event began as a celebration of the Centenary of the Girl Guide movement. Now in its fourth year, this event offers some great activities for Girl Guides as they make their way around the Garden. Find out about more about this great organisation and the exciting and educational activities they offer. When: Saturday 6 April 2013, 10 am-3 pm Dandy LionsJoin us for some autumn fun in the garden! Children under 5 years and their carers can enjoy art and craft, gardening activities, songs, stories and play. When: Tuesday and Thursday mornings during school term: 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26 & 28 March; 2, 4, 9, 11 & 30 April; 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28 & 30 May. 10.30 am to 12 noon Where: Lawn next to Victoria Gate Lodge, Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney. Enter through Victoria Gate from Mrs Macquaries Road. Click here for map Cost: Members $13.50, non-members $15. For children up to 5 years. The morning session is all about the lake and the creatures that live within it, you will even get a change to dip-net for creatures and learn how to identify them. The afternoon sessions are an adventure tour of the Garden, take your camera and capture some great photos of the plants and animals that call the Garden home! When: 15 - 19 April, Morning sessions: 10.30 am-12 noon; Afternoons sessions: 1.00-2.30 pm Kids' Tree Tales at TomahROMAJoin Bloss the Ghost Gum and Iron the Iron Bark Tree during this fun interactive performance as they sing songs and recite poetry illustrating the importance of trees to the environment. When: Saturday 27 April 2013, 2 sessions available: 11 am-12 noon and 1 pm-2 pm The Really Bitey QuestFind out about surprising animal and plant carnivores on the Really Bitey Quest where sometimes the hunter becomes the hunted… The quest takes approximately 45 minutes exploring different areas of the garden.
