Visitor code

Please help us care for the Garden by following a few simple rules during your visit.

We ask visitors to remember:

  • Observe all signs and instructions from staff for your safety and information
  • Children must be supervised at all times
  • Pedestrians have right of way throughout the Garden
  • The speed limit is 30 km/h
  • Drive only on designated, sealed roads
  • Park only on road edges or in marked parking areas
  • Leave pets and firearms at home
  • Take out all rubbish with you
  • All wildlife is protected including snakes, spiders and lizards
  • Respect other visitors’ recreation and safety

Please do not:

  • Light fires - free barbecues are provided at picnic areas
  • Camp anywhere on site
  • Swim, wade or fish in lakes, ponds or creeks
  • Pick, damage, remove plants or dead plant matter, or climb trees
  • Ride skateboards, use rollerblades or bicycles in the Connections / Terrace Garden
  • Fly kites near electrical power lines, trees or groups of people
  • Push objects into the ground, such as cricket stumps or tent pegs, due to concerns about the spread of soil-borne diseases

The above requirements are drawn from the Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust Act (1980) & Regulation (2008), which regulate the conduct of the public within the Garden. For a full copy of the Garden regulations or if you have a question about the Visitor Code, please ask a Ranger or enquire at the Visitor Centre.
