Description
Mount Annan is the native plant garden of the Botanic Gardens Trust. It covers 416 hectares, making it the largest botanic garden in Australia. Until 1984 it was grazing farmland when the Trust acquired the site.
The first plantings were made in 1985 and the Garden opened to the public in 1988. Plantings are designed to display the diversity of the Australian flora and will eventually include many of our 25 000 known plant species. Although still relatively new, the Mount Annan Garden is fast becoming both a magnificent, extensive landscape and a showcase for Australian flora.
Gathered here is a collection of the remarkable plants which make up the fascinating flora of the continent, including many rare and endangered species not previously cultivated.

Venue hire

Research
Our scientists undertake research in horticulture.
Horticultural research studies the culture, propagation, pathology and selection of plants. Current research focuses on propagation of the Wollemi Pine, waratahs and flannel flowers.

Administration
Mount Annan Botanic Garden is managed by the Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust. The Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust is a statutory body of the New South Wales Government established under the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust Act 1980, variously amended. The Trust reports to the Minister for the Environment, Mr Bob Debus. Reporting to the Executive Director are: Director Science & Public Programs, Director Botanic Gardens, Director Finance & Business Services, Director Communications & Marketing, Managing Curator Mount Annan Botanic Garden, Managing Curator Mount Tomah Botanic Garden and Managing Curator Domain.
