Our Botanic GardensThe Botanic Gardens Trust a New South Wales State Government organisation within the Environment portfolio — under the Minister for Climate Change, Environment and Water. The three Botanic Gardens and the Domain are administered by the Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust. Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain The Royal Botanic Gardens is a place of natural beauty, where people come for peace, relaxation, education, and to learn more about plants and horticulture. The surrounding parkland of the Domain is a place for sport, entertainment and recreation. The National Herbarium of NSW — Centre for Plant Conservation & Research — is located within the Royal Botanic Gardens. The sensation of the late 18th century in the field of botany was the discovery of a new continent filled with exotic plants unknown to the rest of the world. Mount Annan Botanic Garden displays over 4000 of these, set in 410 hectares of hills and lakes. The Garden also contains remnant Cumberland Plain Woodland and houses our Horticultural Research facilities, including the NSW Seedbank. Mount Tomah Botanic Garden, in the world-heritage listed Greater Blue Mountains, is situated 1000 metres above sea level and showcases many beautiful native and exotic plants not suited to Sydney’s climate. |
