This year our Christmas card features a stunning reproduction of the Waratah - an original watercolour by Annie Hughes. Originally from Santiago, Chile, Annie exhibited in Botanica exhibitions in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Her keen eye and sensitivity to texture resulted in her being awarded first prize for both Australian natives and the People's Prize at the botanical Artists Society of Australia exhibition in 2005. Annie's beautiful work has earned her an international reputation and her work is enjoyed in private collections in Australia, the USA and the UK. Telopea speciosissima (the Waratah ) is the floral emblem of New South Wales. It is an evergreen shrub with flaming red globular flowers that appear in spring. The Friends of The Gardens 2009 Christmas Cards are available in packs of 10 for just $18 including postage by filling in the merchandise sales form, or you can pick them up directly from the Friends’ Office in the Royal Botanic Gardens and get a special rate of only $15 per pack! The 2009 Waratah card also available as a blank correspondence card for the same price. The Charlotte Thodey Art Postcard PackFrom the brush of artist Charlotte Thodey comes a sumptuous collection of postcards and bookmarks. The pack features a variety of still life images, including persimmons, apples, plums, and a postcard-sized Hippeastrum (as seen in the Friends’ ‘Red Collection’ of greeting cards). You can have this wonderful collection for just $20 per pack (including postage and handling) by filling in the merchandise sales form. As a special offer, collect your packs from the Friends of The Gardens Cottage in the Royal Botanic Gardens for only $18, saving $2 per pack. Friends’ Recipe bookCook up a Storm with Friends’ Well Tested RecipesOne of the delights of attending the many Friends of The Gardens events and activities in our beautiful Botanic Gardens over the years has been the chance to enjoy the delicious culinary delights served up at events by our catering volunteers. So popular are our caterers’ gastronomic creations that the flood of requests for their recipes has led to the release of this compact edition with a fresh, new look. The Friends of The Gardens Volunteers’ Recipe Book was originally compiled in 1997-1998, revised and expanded in September 2003 and now this bumper edition incorporates twenty-four new recipes from our hardworking catering volunteers, and one special recipe contribution from well known cook, Belinda Jeffery. It has been reproduced in a convenient A5 format and is spiral bound so it easily lays flat when you’re baking. It would make an ideal Christmas or Birthday gift and is very reasonably priced at $20 if you buy from the office, or $23 including postage. Available by mail through the merchandise sales form and at the Friends’ Office. By purchasing this book you’re helping fund the Friends’ valuable work supporting our world-renowned Gardens in Sydney, Mount Annan and Mount Tomah as well as our National Herbarium of NSW.
