The Art Gallery of NSW is expanding its existing gallery with a new building and public art garden located to the north of the existing gallery. The Sydney Modern Project will be a major development project in the Domain undertaken by Richard Crookes Constructions together with Infrastructure NSW, on behalf of the NSW Government and Gallery.
Temporary site establishment works have commenced. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2022.
The Gallery will remain open during this time.
During construction, there will be changed pedestrian access arrangements around the project site and an increase in vehicles using Art Gallery Road and Lincoln Crescent to enter and exit the site. We ask that you please take care when crossing roads.
Pedestrian access changes
Some pedestrian paths in and around the Domain will be temporarily closed during construction to ensure public safety.
The main change will be for pedestrians using the access path along the landbridge to/from Woolloomooloo, and recreational users of the landbridge and oil tank land.
During this time alternate access routes will be available. Visitors will be able to access the Domain, Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and surrounding areas via the alternate routes highlighted on the map below.
