Examine a range of native plants from contrasting rainforest and arid environments, and observe the amazing adaptations that allow them to grow and survive. In research teams, students will conduct a scientific investigation and complete scientific illustrations, fine tuning scientific skills and making connections between the physical conditions in which plants live, their growth and survival.

Inquiry question:
How do the structural and behavioural features of living things support survival?
Students:

  • describe adaptations as existing structures or behaviours that enable living things to survive in their environment (ACSSU043)
  • describe the structural and/or behavioural features of some native Australian animals and plants and why they are considered to be adaptations, for example:
    • shiny surfaces of leaves on desert plants
