This program is a unique opportunity to learn about the culture of the local Aboriginal people, the Cadigal people. Aboriginal Education Officers will provide a personal perspective offering how Indigenous people of the Sydney area used plants for food, medicine, tools and weapons, giving students the opportunity to meet and interact with members of our Indigenous communities.
Please note: This program is available to book from Term 3, 2021 onwards.
- Students will explore communication methods used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to share ideas and information, e.g. dance, stories, music and art
- They will use terms relating to time to appreciate the length of Aboriginal settlement in Australia, engage with artefacts and identify a range of natural materials used by Aboriginal peoples
- Students also examine a wide variety of local native plants within the Cadi Jam Ora garden which were integral in the life of the First Australians for food, medicine, tools and weapons
