Project aims

  • Elucidate the phylogeny of Cyperaceae tribe Schoeneae using molecular and morphological data
  • Use the phylogeny to investigate the biogeography and phylogeography of this tribe

Project Summary

This project examines the evolutionary relationships (phylogeny) and biogeography of the tribe Schoeneae. The tribe is mainly Gondwanan in distribution but some taxa extend to the Northern Hemisphere. Diversity 'hot spots' are SE and SW Australia and the Cape Province in South Africa. Molecular and morphological data are being used. Data gathered for sub-projects on individual genera or clades within the tribe are allowing us to refine the phylogeny.
